What’s Ranch Dressing?
Ranch Dressing is an American salad dressing that is typically made with mayonnaise, buttermilk, mustard, and various spices.
It often contains dairy products such as yogurt or sour cream as well as fresh herbs that give it its signature texture and taste.
According to the history of Ranch dressing, it was invented in Alaska by a plumbing contractor that created it to keep his crew happy.
He brought it back to his ranch in California where he gave the Ranch Salad Dressing its name we now know.

How To Make Avocado Ranch Dressing
Making a salad dressing is generally straightforward and this recipe is no exception. It’ll only take 5 minutes of your time, most of it will be to gather the ingredients!
Ingredients
- Mayonaise – any mayonnaise will do, but try to go for a free-range egg version.
- Avocado – it’s essential to use a ripe avocado. To know if your avo is ripe, remove the stem to check the color under it. If it’s bright green and the avocado is soft to the touch, it is ready.
- Greek Yogurt – opt for unsweetened Greek yogurt. You can also use sour cream, both work fine in this recipe.
- Lemon Juice – You can either buy a bottle of lemon juice or squeeze it yourself. Read my guide on how to get the most juice out of a lemon.
- Chives – prefer dried chives, but you can use fresh chives if that’s all you have. You can also use chopped parsley.
- Dill – I like to use dried dill for this recipe.
- Onion & Garlic Powder – and a touch of salt to have the perfect taste.
- Almond Milk – opt for unsweetened, unflavored almond milk. If you’re allergic to almonds, you can use oat milk or rice milk. You can also use heavy cream.
